5 foot 1 inch great sword in stainless steel. I made this back in the late 90's. The pic has it in the hands of Lita ford.

The fantasy actually comes from the design. In that the design of the it supposed to seem cool and fantasy-like. You couldn't use a sword like that in battle, there's too many points and spikes and you could easily hurt yourself in the process of battle. Not to mention it makes the overall structure a bit weaker than a practical sword would be. It really has nothing to do with weight and length. Horsemen in the feudal era of japan used extremely long, heavy swords on horseback called nodachi.

Because a 5 foot 1 inch sword is not very practical - it would not be very helpful in a real battle/fight. :D
It would be scary as heck though.

jaja, true, but if itīs hollow and made in a light metal and if a really strong guy carries it, it could work. jajaja By the way, how much does it weights?

If it's hollow it's not going to be very durable. It would be very bendy. You'd basically be holding a very long and fancy piece of pipe.
