They were referring to Damascus steel. It's a technique (sometimes emulated purely for looks) for making steel, and it gives the blade that cool swirled pattern.

This blade looks good for a thrower type as well. Definately hearty enough to take a tumble (fumble) against something hard. No, this could pass as a rockbiter, very sturdy.

Very nicely done. I like how it looks.
Is the blade really metal? It looks like polished wood.

the blade is folded steel using more than one type of steel. acid etching reveals the layering effect that gives the grain look to the steel.

I like the feel of this knife, but I have to ask (as something of a Damascus lover) what is your Damascus composition?

How much are the knives you make? And does all Damascus steel have that almost wood grain pattern to it? And how'd you make it black steel? O.O because I may have to start doing woodworking again do I can make some money and pay for a custom knife.... .... I mean.... Yeah, answer the questions and ignore the end part....

This one is $300 check out the available page on my web site to see more [link]
Not all Damascus has the same patterns there are twist and rose and random patterns. The dark color comes from acid etching the blade.

I want so bad...
It does seem bulky and the steel could be heavy NOT criticizing because this is amazing but maybe some ornate designs cut into and out of the steel would lighten it and make it even more apeasing? :D

Is it full tang? What's the hardness? Does it have a sheath?
Reply
:iconlicataknives:

yes it is full tang. I heat treat small blades myself only swords I send out for heat treat. So I am no sure of an exact harness. Damascus is very hard to rockwell your never really sure if the layer your point is hitting is a hard or soft layer. No sheath yet.
