They were referring to Damascus steel. It's a technique (sometimes emulated purely for looks) for making steel, and it gives the blade that cool swirled pattern.

This blade looks good for a thrower type as well. Definately hearty enough to take a tumble (fumble) against something hard. No, this could pass as a rockbiter, very sturdy.
